Social Music Adventurers

So T61 has gone and changed again. No surprise there. They are implementing a Heart-Based Reputation System. If you go to your Settings and look under the Preferences tab you will see a box that says "use the new heart-based reputation system (beta)." Check the box and save your settings.

This will switch you to the new reputation system. No worries, you can always go back to the point system if you want (for now).

You can read more about it on their FAQ page (link at bottom of page).

Here's what I've learned in this very short time of using the new system:
1. You are only alloted a certain number of "hearts" to give out each day. I have yet to determine how they assign hearts for each person but it seems to be different for everyone, depending on your level and amount of points you have.
2. Your Reputation is equal to your current points.
3. You can earn extra Reputation points and extra Hearts for the day by listening to The Rack. It seems to change back and forth between songs on whether you receive a Reputation point or a Heart point.
4. You will not be able to see the amount of people bumping or hearting for 24 hours. They want you to "heart" because you like the song -- not because it's popular.
5. I like that once you "heart" a song, a red heart appears letting you know that you've hearted it already. Nice touch because sometimes I forget which songs I've bumped.

There's more, but I'm tired and it's late and I have to get to bed. Try it! You may like it! Or not...

This is going to take some getting used to. My biggest problem is with the maximum number of hearts per day. You used to be limited by your points, so that if you heard ten songs in one day that really deserved to be max-bumped, you could do it. I don't think you'd be able to do that now.

I really don't mind their tinkering with the game aspects of the site. I wish, though, that they'd bring back the social aspects.

I noticed one other thing. I went to bed last night with 7 hearts leftover. When I logged in this morning it awarded me a +23 Heart Daily Login. It took my leftover 7 away. So I suggest you use them up everyday.

There is a bug, though. If you use all your hearts it will give you a message that you've used up all your hearts for the day. If you switch back to the point system at that point, it will not allow you to bump. However, if you save one heart (or go back and Rack 1 heart) then switch back to the point system, you'll be back to normal and able to bump for the rest of the day. Something to keep in mind.

I don't mind them tinkering either, but I think it will deter people from playing as much because they may run out of hearts too fast. Like you said, @scrivener, you can easily run out when max-bumping. And it takes a long time to regain a heart back (several Rack songs -- not just one). I like how you can see other's reputation points, though - kinda brings back the "competition/game" aspect of the game.

I had a feeling the hearts were use-'em-or-lose-'em, so I've spent mine all the way down these past two days.
